Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support the day-to-day financial operations of the business. This role is integral to maintaining accurate financial records, supporting commercial activities, and ensuring smooth financial processes across multiple projects and frameworks.

The successful candidate will have strong experience using Xero accounting software and be comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchase ledger processes, including inputting, coding, and reconciling supplier invoices
  • Assist with sales ledger, including raising invoices and monitoring payments
  • Undertake credit control duties, including chasing outstanding debts, issuing statements, and maintaining strong cash flow
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients to ensure timely payments
  • Carry out bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Support monthly financial reporting and management accounts preparation
  • Process staff expenses and assist with payroll administration (if required)
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to resolve queries
  • Maintain organised digital filing systems in line with company procedures
  • Support the commercial team with cost tracking and financial data input
  • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately within Xero
  • Respond to email enquiries and answer telephone enquiries
  • Provide administrative support as required

Requirements

    Essential:
    • Proven experience in a similar finance or accounts role
    • Strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Competency in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems
    • Strong organisational and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
    Desirable:
    • Experience within the construction or maintenance sector
    • Knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme)
    • AAT qualification or working towards
    Working Arrangements:
    • 28 hours per week (flexible – to be agreed)
    • Office-based role to support collaboration with commercial and operational teams
